Location : National Hospital Colombo
On Monday, February 9, 2026, the Cancer Early Detection Centre (CEDC) at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka was officially inaugurated by Hon. Deputy Minister of Health & Mass Media Dr Hansaka Wijemuni following its relocation. Established over two decades ago through a collaboration between the Rotary Club of Colombo and the National Cancer Control Programme, the Centre has screened more than 100,000 individuals and identified nearly 30,000 cases for further review.
The Rotary Club of Colombo has contributed significantly to the Centre’s development by providing facilities, equipment, and public education initiatives—including the introduction of HPV DNA testing for cervical cancer in Sri Lanka. Gratitude is extended to the Hon. Minister, NCCP, Dr. Senaka Talagala, Dr. Hasarali Fernando, and all collaborators for their ongoing support. The Rotary Club of Colombo remains steadfast in its mission to enhance cancer prevention and early detection services for Sri Lankans. Through collective efforts, lives are saved.
